Massage Therapy

Massage therapy does more than making you feel good, it can actually help your body achieve balance and optimal health. Massage therapy offers a natural treatment approach which actually relieves musculoskeletal pain for many patients. Our chiropractic office provides specific massage and muscular therapy that is complimentary to our patient's chiropractic care. Each massage therapy plan is tailored to meet the patients's unique pain condition or injury level. The benefits of massage therapy may include the increase of blood circulation, a localized reduction in swelling and relaxation of muscles, which increases healing and helps cutting down on recovery time. Massage has been known to relieve muscle pain, spasms and increase a patient's range of motion, while also aiding in a patient's recovery.  Some investigative studies have been indicated that a single session of massage may help boost your immune system.

A lot of scientific research on massage therapy is preliminary and conflicting, but much of the evidence point's toward beneficial effects on pain and other symptoms associated with a number of different conditions. Much of the evidence suggests that these effects are short term and that people need to keep geting massages for the benefits to continue.

How does massage work?

Massage causes physiological changes in your body through:

* The relaxation response, which is an involuntary, yet predictable response of the nervous system to massage techniques and touch.

* Relaxation response is a state in which the heart and breathing rate slow, your blood pressure goes down, production of stress hormones slows down and your muscles relax.

* Mechanical responses, which are physical effects that occur in the body when pressure is applied to the soft tissues. Physical manupilation of the soft tissue increases blood flow and lymph circulation, and relaxation and normalization of the soft tissue (muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments), which releases nerves and deeper connective tissues.
